Weather

What a fun week we had with talking about all kinds of weather!  Hope you enjoy this week's pics, and I hope to see you this Wednesday at the Trike-a-Thon.  Don't forget, it's at Floyds Knobs Elementary from 6-7:30, and it will be loads of family fun!  See you there!

Tabletop Morning Centers

Special friendship hugs on the way to recess! :)

We talked about the different kinds of weather and what we should wear during each type of weather.  Thanks to all my sweet volunteers, we enjoyed a little fashion show for what attire to wear for windy days, rainy days, snowy days, and sunny days.

Hooded Sweatshirts for Windy Days

Snowsuits and Snow Hats for Snowy Days

Sunhats, Sunglasses and Shorts for Sunny Days

Raincoats and Umbrellas for Rainy Days

 Dress Up Fun
Kiddos dressed up in all kinds of fun outfits this week.  Cole chose to be brave and be the first boy to try on a dress.  It was completely his idea and it actually fit him pretty well! ;)

All About Me Basket
Cole was our student of the week and shared a cute family photo and a few items that told us more about him and what he likes.

We had a special visitor this week who taught us some basic karate moves and great tips for showing manners and being respectful to others.

We worked on making name clouds by putting the letters in our name in order.  Then we created a rainbow underneath the clouds with questions about what our favorite color, food, toy, and jobs we want to do when we grow up.  They're hanging up in the hallway.  Super cute!

We made a big "W" for weather and glued our types of weather labels to the paper.  We also used our weather stamps and blue paint raindrops to show each type of weather.

We used letter "W" and #4 cookie cutters to cut out watermelon, and then we got to eat it.  We also talked about the color of the week (red) in addition to our number and letter of the week.  It takes a lot of hand strength to push these little cutters through the watermelon, so it was a delicious fine motor activity too!

Apples

What a fun week learning about apples and the letter "A"!  Hope you enjoy the photos from our various activities from the week. :)  Before I begin, I have to briefly interrupt this picture show for an important announcement!

ATTENTION PARENTS!  Don't forget that our ONLY fundraiser for the year is coming up on Wednesday, September 28th at 6 p.m. behind Floyds Knobs Elementary.  Envelopes and a hand-out went home last week to collect donations from family or friends.  It's our annual Trike-a-thon where students (and siblings) can bring bikes or trikes to safely ride on the pavement in a designated spot.  We'll just ride based on age groups.  It's not a race, but it's just for fun.  They'll also be food and snacks to purchase, a playground to play on, bouncies, and prizes to win!  It's so much fun!  Hope all of you can come!

Okay, now on with the pics from the week!~
Working on tracing the number 3 with markers.

After reading "Ten Apples Up On Top" by Dr. Seuss, we placed apple stickers on top of our little self portraits and counted to see how many would fit.  A great challenge as early artists!

Yes, that's right!  That's an apple that we're using to paint and trace the letter "A"!  So messy, but it was so much fun to use a new way to work on our letter of the week.  :)

We also dotted our letter "A" in both lowercase and uppercase letters.

We performed a basic science experiment with an apple.  I asked the class to make predictions about whether or not an apple would SINK or FLOAT in a bowl of water.  We wrote down who made what prediction, and then we tested it.  The apple floated!
We had some kiddos put on a little puppet show for me.  Mason is hiding behind the curtain. :)

More fun in the classroom!

So many pretty princesses!  We finally discovered the dress-up clothes this week!

Reading and play dough fun

Thanks so much for bringing in homemade playdough this week, Cooper!

Playground fun!

We test-tasted red, yellow, and green apples to see which ones students liked the best.  Then, we created a graph to show which apples were the most popular in the class.

I brought in apple butter and biscuits for snack on Friday, and we practiced spreading out the apple butter with our little hands.  It was definitely tricky for these little hands, but the payoff was delicious after all that work!  Hope they enjoyed all of our apple activities this week, because I sure did.  Have a great week!
