Favorite Author: Kevin Henkes

We've had a fun week talking about our New Year's resolutions as well as studying books from one of my favorite authors, Kevin Henkes.  Henkes wrote "Chrysanthemum" and "Wemberly Worried" to name a few.  We talked about things we worry about out and what we can do when we feel worried or scared about things.  We also made some fun crafts and worked on reviewing our letters covered so far as well as numbers 1-10.  We had a few additional items added to our green room (Minds in Motion), so you'll have to check it out in our pictures this week and in person when you get a chance.  Hope you enjoy the pics from our week!

We made our New Year's resolutions about talking about something we wanted to learn in 2019.  We also made fun little party hats with faces and party blowers to add to what we wrote. :)

We traced 2019 and colored a celebration sheet with markers.

We reviewed some of our letters that we've learned so far by using pictures to match to the correct letters that show the beginning sounds of each picture.  We're making progress in this area, but it can definitely be tricky!

We've come so far this year on being able to put the letters in our name in order as well as telling each letter of our names in order.  Great!

We read the book "Chrysanthemum" that talks about a little girl that gets made fun of for having such a long and unusual name.  So, we wrote our names in separated spaces and counted to see how many letters were in our names.  Then, we wrote the corresponding numbers.  We talked about the letters in our name and how each of our names is different and unique.

We practiced writing upper and lowercase letters that we've studied so far.

After reading "Wemberly Worried," we talked about the things that we worry about.  We created our own Wemberly craft and then wrote what things make us worried.  Check these out at the end of the hallway by the water fountain.

So cute!

We worked on tracing our numbers 1-10 one last time.  We'll be moving on to #11 next week!

We did a little experiment that required counting as a class.  We predicted how long it would take for a gingerbread cookie to dissolve in a glass of water.  Would we be able to count to 20, 40, or even 100 before our gingerbread cookie was totally falling apart in the water?  We actually counted to 100 in groups of 20 and checked after each group of 20 to see if the cookie dissolved yet.  We barely made it to 100 and it had fallen apart in the water.  It was a fun science experiment and a great counting activity too!

Mrs. Andrea's daughters (Hallie and Ellie) attend Lanesville schools, and they weren't back in school yet.  So, they came to our classroom on Friday and helped out with our crafts in class.  Our kids were so excited to see "big kids" in the classroom.  The girls also did some fun letter tracing activities with the kids as well as helping out with crafts.

Love to see all these sweet smiles during our playtime in class!

So precious!  We have one kiddo choosing to read to another.  It just warms my heart. :)

We had some sunshine on Thursday and had to take advantage of a chance to play outside!

We also had fun playing with some new items in the MIM room this week too!

Hope you enjoy our pics from the week!
