Space

We blasted off to outer space this week as we studied our space theme in class!  We had so much fun making rockets, telescopes, astronauts, and learning all kinds of new things about space.  We read some great books about the planets, the sun, the moon, and the stars.  We even read a book written by a classroom full of students called, "Poor Pluto," about how it's now just considered a dwarf planet.  The students felt sorry for Pluto and invited the planet to come and play at their school. :)  We also created our own constellations using toothpicks and marshmallows as well as geoboards with rubberbands.  We watched a variety of educational videos from Storybots on the different planets, the sun, and the moon.  Probably the most favorite activity of the week was watching a video of real astronauts in space shuttles floating through the air and talking about what it's like to be in space.  We even watched the lift off of a space shuttle as well.  So much fun had by all this week!  Hope you enjoy all of our photos and videos!

Storybots Outer Space Videos

We created rockets and worked on writing our numbers from 1-10 in the process with each square.

We created astronauts and talked about what we would do if we were astronauts that went to space.  Then, I added a picture of their faces and put them in the astronaut's face.  Check these out in the hallway at school!

We worked on our sight words with our space reading sheet for the week.

We used watercolor to paint astronauts.

Then, we cut it apart and tried to put it back together like a puzzle.

We traced our teen numbers and traced our stars, the shape of the week.

We made "W is for Worm" crafts using popsicle sticks.

We made and decorated our own rockets out of toilet paper rolls.

We looked at a variety of space books this week with our friends.

We stamped different letters and traced them with colored pencils.

We made telescopes out of paper towel rolls with our girls on Friday.

We traced, wrote, and stamped our sight words.

We were surprised to see big snowflakes on Friday and had to take a look!

Up close and personal shots of these cuties!

Afternoon Bridge and Lunch Bunch Class

We made our own planets with circles and glitter glue.  So fun!

We worked on completing the patterns based on colors of the shoe that comes next.

Hunting for the letter "W"

Matching the correct uppercase and lowercase letter cards with the correct beginning sounds.

Creating rocket drawings based on what we rolled on the dice

Matching letters with the correct puzzles they belong in

Creating the planet Earth with our own two hands :)

"He's got the whole world in His hands"...

Using popsicle sticks to create different numbers and then writing the number of popsicle sticks it took to create them.

We made "planet bracelets" using different beads on pipe cleaners.

We created constellations using geoboards and rubberbands.

We put our "planets" in a box and rolled around a paint covered marble to cover it.

They all turned out so colorful and cool!

We played a domino card game and had to find the correct letter to go with the correct picture.  The set up was tricky, but these kiddos figured it out. :)

We each got a handful of unifex cubes and had to graph them by color on our graphs.  Then, we decided which color had the most and the least.

We used our handprints to create aliens and then gave them a name. :)

We worked on shape puzzles too.

These silly kiddos love to have fun!

Hope you enjoyed our pics from the week!
