Ocean

This week we've been diving deep into our ocean theme!  We've learned about a variety of animals found in the ocean and even graphed our favorites.  We talked about our letter "Z" and #19 this week as well as our sight word "like" and our color word "purple."  We've been busy as you can see!  We also made some fun crafts, including cutting shark teeth out of paper plates, painting scales on fish with celery, and made whales by squishing paint on whale papers in a Ziploc bag.  They turned out so cute, and they're in the hallway to check out.  Hope you enjoy our pics from the week!

I cut out whales on thick paper and put them in Ziploc bags.  Then, we squirted different colors of paint in the bags and let the kids squish the paint around in their bags to cover and "paint" the whales.  These turned out so colorful!  They later stuck on an eye and put Jonah and our moral from our Bible lesson on it as well.  It was a great tie-in to our Bible story about Jonah and ocean theme. :)

You can see the whales in the picture when they were dry and ready for eyes and Jonahs to be added.

After reading, "The Rainbow Fish," we made our own rainbow fish by painting scales on them by using celery.  These were so fun to paint and turned out really cute.  Check them out in the hallway!

They looked a little something like this.  So pretty!

We worked on drawing our Student of the Week again this week.  Still a challenge, but we're making progress!

We made a class graph of all of our favorite ocean animals.  Each child wrote their name on a post-it note and put it next to the correct animal of choice.  Even Mrs. Hannah and Mrs. Andrea shared their favorites too!  Check it out on the wall across from our classroom. :)

We built a sentence by cutting out words, including our sight word of the week, "like."  Our sentence says, "Fish like to swim."

We practiced making our letter of the week and making its sound as well.

We played a game by rolling a dice and then writing the sight word that goes with the number that was rolled.  This was a great way to review our sight words and a fun way to practice writing them too.  Remember, playing board games or other games with dice at home is a great way to practice number recognition and counting! :)

We practiced our cutting skills by folding paper plates in half and cutting along traced jagged edges to create a shark's mouth.  These were a little tough to cut through, but it was great fine motor for these little hands.  Our cutting skills have definitely improved since the beginning of the year too!

So fun to see their finished sharks!

We shared our Show and Tell items for letter Z.

We had 1 Zombie monster truck.

We had 1 Ziploc bag.

We had 5 zebras.

We had 1 zipper.

We had 1 Zombie costume.

We had 1 little letter Z puzzle piece.

We had 1 number zero.

We had 1 beautiful Zoey. :)

We had fun playing with friends and building all kinds of cool things this week.

We always enjoy playing with playdough, and this time we used shells to play in our playdough too.

We had fun getting wiggles out in the MIM room this week.  Hoping for warmer weather soon!

Hope you have a great week!
