Apples

It's been a fun and tasty week of learning about apples, tasting apples, painting with apples, spreading apple butter, and sampling apple cider!  We've gotten to do all kinds of fun activities with this apple theme, and I hope you enjoy the pics from the week!  I've also included a few fun videos from the week as well.  :)

Way Up High in the Apple Tree

Letter "C" by ABC Mouse

Letter "C" Storybots video

We "traced" the letter "C" with apples dipped in red, yellow, and green paint.

We worked on our cutting and gluing skills while putting pictures of apples in order from smallest to largest.

We traced triangles and the letter "C" with Q-tips dipped in green paint.

We listened to the book "Ten Apples Up on Top", drew a picture of ourselves, and then placed apple stickers on top of our drawings and counted how many apple stickers we used.

We traced the letter "C" and learned how to do rainbow writing by tracing it with various colors.

We read a poem during our reading group and then traced the color words we found in the poem.

We talked about the different parts of the apple and then created apples with paper, paint dotters, finger prints and labels for each apple part.

They're hanging in the hallway for you to see!

One of our learning stations included a STEM science activity.  We tried to make "apple trees" out of green paper strips and pom poms stacked on top.  The goal was to see how many pom poms we could stack on top of the paper while sitting them on top of a plastic container.

We used markers to scribble on coffee filters in various colors.  (Yes, I actually told them they could scribble this time! :)

Then, we sprayed them with water to make the colors run.

Using spray bottles is a great fine motor skill, and after we let them dry we turned them into apples as well.  Look for these in the future after I laminate them.  They turned out super cute!

We traced the number 3 with stickers and pencils.  We reviewed our rhyme to help us remember how to make it:  "Around the tree, around the tree, that's the way we make a 3."  I was so impressed with the fine motor skills they used to peel off these little stickers!  I thought it would be much more difficult, but they did great!

We tasted red, green, and yellow apples.

We talked about which apples were our favorite.  Then, we made graphs both as a class and in our learning stations to show the results.

We also tried spreading apple butter on biscuits.  This was a yummy treat, but learning to spread things out using a plastic knife is a great fine motor skill too.  Shhh...don't tell them they were actually working. ;)

Mrs. Susie reading a book about apples to the class.

Here's our class picture of letter "C" show and tell!  We had a cow, cats, a carnivore dinosaur, and lots of cars!

Look at all these sweet friends dressed in green!

Making new friends and playing together.

Lots of exercise in the green room!

As you can see, it was a busy and fun-filled week!  Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
