Spiders and Silly Monsters

It's been a silly and spooky week learning about spiders and making some silly monsters!  We've made spiders with yarn and clothespins, and we've used our finger prints and drawn out 8 legs for each spider with four on each side.  We also made silly monsters with different shapes we've learned about and added some funny eyes.  We colored coffee filters with markers, sprayed them, and let them dry until they looked "tie dyed".  We then glued on eyes, teeth, and ears/horns to make them look like silly monsters.  They loved this hands-on, messy process. :)  We've been working on letter "P" and the number 7 as well, and we always review previous letters and skills covered so far.  I hope you do this at home too!  Hope you enjoy the pics from our week!

We graphed some silly monsters and practiced writing our numbers in the process.

We reviewed the shapes we've learned so far and made silly monsters out of them.

I love how creative these kiddos are!

We colored coffee filters with markers.  In fact, this time it was ok to scribble!

After the coffee filters got colored and squirted with water, we let them dry to give them a "tie dyed" look.  Then, we made monster faces on them.

They had so much fun doing these, and there was a lot of fine motor skills involved to get some of these tiny pieces glued on.  Their hard work paid off though! :)  So cute!

We used our finger prints to make spider bodies, and then we drew on spider legs.

We worked on doing 4 legs on each side to make 8 legs total.

These kiddos made some cool connections with our Hexi-Snaps.

We used tweezers to pull out plastic spiders from the bottom of our plastic bins that had yarn "spider webs" in them.  This is another great fine motor activity too.

We used plastic spiders to wrap onto our spider webs too that consisted of yarn wrapped around cardboard circles.

We also used tweezers to pull out spiders and ghosts out of our tiny caldrons.  We even had pattern cards that we used when we found the right character to complete the pattern.
