Zoo Animals

It's been so much fun to study and learn about zoo animals this week!  We've gotten to do some messy crafts with noodles, paper plates, popsicle sticks, markers, glue, stickers, and pom poms to help us learn about the letter "N" and the number #4 as well!  Hope you enjoy our pics from the week and are able to check out a few of our videos from this week too.  I especially recommend listening to the bear hunt book.  It's one of my personal favorites!

Book "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" as told by Michael Rosen - Your kids loved this video!

Starting our day with morning table top centers.

We read the book, "Put Me in the Zoo" and then created and named our own leopards similar to the ones in the book.  Look for these out in the hallway!

We used noodles to "trace" the letter "Nn" in one of our independent activities.

We "read" our color words along with our zoo poem and then traced the color words with different colors.

We listened to the book, "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" as read by the author, Michael Rosen.  (Check out the video above for the link.  The kids loved all his sound effects!)  After reading the book, we went on a hunt ourselves but for letters instead of bears.  Look at all these letters they found hidden all around the room!

They looked high and low...

 We found quite a few...
There are still a few still hiding in the toys that we'll have to look for next week!

We put stickers on our letter "N" for Narwhals, and then counted and traced the stickers.

We also traced the shape and the word "diamond".

We hunted for shapes and then colored them with our color word key.

We ordered the numbers 1-4 and then placed enough stickers to coordinate with each number.

We hunted for the diamonds and used our dotters to identify them.

We also practiced making the number "4", finding the number, and also counting the right amount of stickers to make 4.

We made our Noah's arks to go along with animal theme and Bible story for the week.

These kiddos used different sized popsicle sticks to make an ark and then put animals stickers all around it.  Great activity for fine motor skills and a creative outlet for these kiddos!

Our arks turned out so cute!

Even though they look upside down, these were also some monkey hand prints we made this week as well just for fun.  :)

Last week, the kiddos were able to color with markers on coffee filters and then spray them with water to make the colors run.  Once they dried, I glued them to these apples, put their picture inside and wrote on them to create this final product.  So cute!  Check these out in the hallway as well!

Apples

It's been a fun and tasty week of learning about apples, tasting apples, painting with apples, spreading apple butter, and sampling apple cider!  We've gotten to do all kinds of fun activities with this apple theme, and I hope you enjoy the pics from the week!  I've also included a few fun videos from the week as well.  :)

Way Up High in the Apple Tree

Letter "C" by ABC Mouse

Letter "C" Storybots video

We "traced" the letter "C" with apples dipped in red, yellow, and green paint.

We worked on our cutting and gluing skills while putting pictures of apples in order from smallest to largest.

We traced triangles and the letter "C" with Q-tips dipped in green paint.

We listened to the book "Ten Apples Up on Top", drew a picture of ourselves, and then placed apple stickers on top of our drawings and counted how many apple stickers we used.

We traced the letter "C" and learned how to do rainbow writing by tracing it with various colors.

We read a poem during our reading group and then traced the color words we found in the poem.

We talked about the different parts of the apple and then created apples with paper, paint dotters, finger prints and labels for each apple part.

They're hanging in the hallway for you to see!

One of our learning stations included a STEM science activity.  We tried to make "apple trees" out of green paper strips and pom poms stacked on top.  The goal was to see how many pom poms we could stack on top of the paper while sitting them on top of a plastic container.

We used markers to scribble on coffee filters in various colors.  (Yes, I actually told them they could scribble this time! :)

Then, we sprayed them with water to make the colors run.

Using spray bottles is a great fine motor skill, and after we let them dry we turned them into apples as well.  Look for these in the future after I laminate them.  They turned out super cute!

We traced the number 3 with stickers and pencils.  We reviewed our rhyme to help us remember how to make it:  "Around the tree, around the tree, that's the way we make a 3."  I was so impressed with the fine motor skills they used to peel off these little stickers!  I thought it would be much more difficult, but they did great!

We tasted red, green, and yellow apples.

We talked about which apples were our favorite.  Then, we made graphs both as a class and in our learning stations to show the results.

We also tried spreading apple butter on biscuits.  This was a yummy treat, but learning to spread things out using a plastic knife is a great fine motor skill too.  Shhh...don't tell them they were actually working. ;)

Mrs. Susie reading a book about apples to the class.

Here's our class picture of letter "C" show and tell!  We had a cow, cats, a carnivore dinosaur, and lots of cars!

Look at all these sweet friends dressed in green!

Making new friends and playing together.

Lots of exercise in the green room!

As you can see, it was a busy and fun-filled week!  Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
