Gingerbread, Christmas Trees, and Grandparents Day

It's been a busy week studying gingerbread, Christmas trees and lights, and celebrating Grandparents Day too!  We had so much fun spending time with our visiting grandparents and making our special ornaments.  We even sang a special song for them and got to eat cookies too. :)  We did an experiment with gingerbread cookies as well!  We read some great books and also worked on the letter "D" this week in the midst of all the other festivities.  Hope you enjoy our pics from the week!

Thank you so much grandparents for visiting us and helping us paint our ornaments!

During classwork, we worked on 1:1 correspondence by putting on the correct number of stickers with the correlating number on our Christmas trees.

We made Christmas tree ornaments by putting jewels on paint samples that were cut into trees.  We hung these on our classroom tree.

When you add corn syrup to watercolor paint, it makes it look shiny.  We painted our Christmas lights with this type of paint, and it turned out so pretty and shiny.

We used dotters to dot inside of circles on our pages.  This is great fine motor and also a great way to practice staying in the lines.  We drew a ribbon on top to make it look like an ornament.

We drew a picture of some of the favorite things we like to do in the winter time.

We read a book about Baby Jesus.

We made predictions about whether or not our gingerbread cookie would sink or float and whether or not it would dissolve in the water.  We agreed that it would dissolve but didn't know how long it would take.  We were also surprised to see that it actually floated for quite a while until it started to dissolve.  So, we counted to see how long it would take for it to dissolve in the water.  We counted to 100 (in groups of 25) and realized it crumbled when we tried to pick it up with tongs out of the water!

Fine motor fun to challenge our brain and our hands
