Pumpkins

I just love pumpkin week!  We've gotten to do some really fun activities, and I think these kiddos have enjoyed learning about and doing things with pumpkins. :)  We've done a few experiments, carved a pumpkin, read about pumpkins, and even talked about how pumpkins grow.  We also worked on our letter "C", the number 6, and the color BROWN.  We've also reviewed our shapes and letters covered to far to prepare for the assessments we had this week.  Hope you enjoy our pictures and videos from the week!

Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate

Jack Hartmann Letter C Song

We used some of the shapes we've learned about so far to make jack-o-lanterns.

We created a small book about pumpkins to help us review our color words, counting, and how to write our numbers.

We listened to "Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate" poem on video.  Then, we created a craft by counting out and writing five pumpkins and giving them faces to show different emotions.

We worked on counting and showing different numbers on our ten frames.

We glued different scraps of paper to a pumpkin drawing, and then I cut around it.

We ended up with neat printed pumpkins (on the right side of our bulletin board) in the hallway.

We also made black cats out of the letter C to work on our letter of the week.

We used watercolor to paint pumpkin pictures too.

We also worked on how to draw a self-portrait.  What shape is our face?  What color are our eyes and hair?  What color is our shirt?  We want to encourage creativity of course, but we're talking about starting the framework for drawing.  They did such a great job!

We traced our letters covered so far with playdough.

On Friday, we did our first color by number page that helped us work on our color words, number recognition, and coloring skills.

On Friday, we also made foam pumpkins with buttons, pom poms, paper stars, and pipe cleaners.

Such cute pumpkin faces!

We used toy hammers and wooden pegs to hammer into our pumpkin.

The other pumpkin used push pins and rubberbands to make a geoboard pumpkin with different shapes.

We did an experiment to see what items would sink or float.

We discovered that a penny and cotton ball sank, but the little pumpkin and popsicle stick floated.  So cool to see what kiddos predicted with this too!

Before carving our jack-o-lantern, we cut around the top and pulled out all the seeds and strings or "guts" of the pumpkin.

Some of them were too grossed out to pull out the seeds and others couldn't wait to reach in there! :)

Show and Tell for Letter "C"

We had 1 cube aquarium toy.

We had 3 cars.

We had 1 piece of cake.  (Too bad it wasn't real!)

 We had 1 cage.

We had 1 carrier for a baby.

We had 1 cow.

We had 1 light up letter "C".

We had 1 Curious George and 1 Charlie Brown.  (Two of my favorites!)

We had 1 cape.

We had 1 combine.

We had 2 cats.

During our station rotations, kids get a chance to look at books in our little library.  I just added all of our family picture houses to a binder in a book for them to look at during this time too.  They love it!  If your house was a little bigger, it's taped to the side of my black cabinet where they can see it too. ;)

This handsome little guy had a birthday this week and was kind enough to bring capes and masks for everyone along with treats.  So sweet!  Cape was perfect for letter "C" too!

Playtime in class with friends

Because of all the great donations from the Trike-a-Thon, we were able to purchase little supermarkets for each room.  They even have toy money and scanners too!

We had a sweet friend who spent a lot of time making these cute little snacks for us.  So thoughtful and cute!

Fun times in the MIM room with friends!

This is our new caterpillar that we climb through that was also bought with Trike-a-thon money!

Enjoying the sunshine!

Afternoon Bridge Activities

We made flowers out of candy corn.

We wrapped rubberbands around little pumpkins.  Great fine motor activity!

We played the game "What Should You Do?" that is a great way to talk about making good decisions about sharing, not talking to strangers, picking up toys, and taking responsibility for our actions.

We put our skeleton puzzle together as a group.

We drew pictures of fire trucks with different shapes which is a great test of following directions.

We continued talking about fire safety and categorized things that are hot and not (or safe) to touch.

We worked on a letter puzzle as a group.

We used our knuckles to make pumpkins.

Playtime with friends.  This makes my heart melt. :)

Yoga with Mrs. Nicole is a great way to stretch our bodies and have fun!
