Snow and Ice

It's been a great week studying snow and ice.  We've learned about snowflakes, felt ice cubes with and without a "blubber glove", made snowflakes with beads, and learned about all kinds of new skills.  We talked about letter "L", the number 13, and we worked on spelling the color GREEN!  We did a lot of review to get ready for our assessment starting this Wednesday, January 31st - Friday, February 2nd.  Thankfully, we even got to go outside and enjoy some sunshine on a few days as well. :) Hope you all enjoy the pics from the week!

We worked on using tiny beads and pipe cleaners to make snowflakes.  This was a great fine motor activity for these little hands, and they had so much fun with it.

We used our "blubber glove" filled with shortening to talk about how winter animals are able to protect themselves from snow, ice, and cold temperatures.  They felt the bowl of ice with and without the glove to feel the difference.

Gumby spent the week with this handsome little man.  So fun to hear about all their adventures!

We worked on matching our uppercase and lowercase letters on our dotter sheet game.  We're working really hard on recognizing both and knowing the sounds for each.

We traced the number 13, colored 13 items, and then filled in our ten frame with 13 marks.

Mrs. Susie helped us work on filling in our ten frames with higher numbers, and we used our skinny dotters to fill each in.

We did a combination skill sheet that introduced counting one more and one more less in a sequence of numbers, helped us recognize the difference between numbers and letters, and also helped us use our color words to color our snowman.

We did a color by number penguin, and used our color word cards to help us.  Still challenging, but we're making progress!

We worked on tracing our lowercase letters with our color of the week (GREEN) markers.

We introduced writing our last name this week, so we traced it in yellow.

We also worked on matching our upper and lowercase letters covered so far.  Then, Mrs. Hannah checked to see what numbers we could identify so far from 0-12.  We also hunted for our sight word "to" from this week, and traced and read it in our sentence.  Lastly, we filled in our ten frame to show the quantity of 13.

Mrs. Susie also helped us do some basic addition problems.  After we read, "Snowmen at Night", she also helped us write about what we think our snowmen would do at night while we're sleeping.

We used blue and purple water color to reveal a hidden message in white oil pastel writing.  The message said, "God made me unique."  So cool to think that no two snowflakes are alike just like no two people are alike!
