Butterflies and Insects

We fluttered through a wonderful week studying butterflies and bugs!  We had loads of fun studying the life cycle and body parts of butterflies along with a variety of fun facts about them and insects too.  We reviewed our letters and numbers 1-20.  We also finished up all our assessments with Mrs. Hannah.  We made some special gifts this week that you'll see at a later time, and we also created butterflies out of blobs of paint.  We talked about symmetry this week as well and talked about how butterflies are symmetrical.  Look for our fun butterfly symmetry crafts in the hallway!  Hope you enjoy a few pics and videos from the week!

This little man was SUPER excited to be our Student of the Week this week! :)

We talked about insects and made our own bumblebees out of the letter B.

We did an independent assessment to show how well we can trace a diamond, square, triangle and circle.  Due to development of our brains at this age, some shapes are more difficult to create than others, but it's AWESOME  to see how much they've improved since the beginning of the year!

Thank you so much to our parents who came in and weighed our kiddos and did their handprints for a portfolio entry page!  We appreciate your help!  (We also want to say thanks to the parents who helped make our pool noodle ponies that we'll use next week for our class Derby race.  Pics of those will come next week!)

We also did a self-portrait and wrote our names the best we could for one of our portfolio entries too!  Our people drawings are starting to look like people!  Yeah!! :)

We continued to work on our learning rings and finished up our end-of-the-year assessments as well.  These kiddos have come so far, and I really think narrowing down skills on our learning rings has helped us improve.  Thanks for your help at home!

We enjoyed some indoor playtime with friends...

We had 1 friend who brought in her own butterfly wings to share with the class to go along with our special theme. They were beautiful!

She took them outside and "flew" through the air with them. :)

 More playtime outside with friends...

We also enjoyed our snack outside in the sunshine this week as well.  This was a first for us, so it was a fun way to enjoy some sunshine. :)

Have a blessed week!

Plants and Gardening

We've had a lot of fun being gardeners this week!  We've planted green bean seeds, learned about the parts of a plant and studied what helps plants grow as well.  We've also watched flowers turn colors when we placed them in colored water too!  It's been quite a week as we've also reviewed our numbers 1-20 as well as all our letters in the alphabet as well.  Hard to believe we've gone through all 26 letters already!  Time sure has flown by this year, and it's going to be graduation time soon.  These kiddos sure are getting excited. :)  Hope you enjoy the pics and videos from the week!

Graduation practice...some of our songs even have motions! :)

This cutie was our Student of the Week.  So glad that she recently joined our class.  She is so sweet and truly has made our class complete.  We're glad you're here, sweet girl!

Working hard at painting our paper plates and popsicle sticks to make our flower crafts.

Mrs. Susie helped us with counting by 10's when we cut apart a puzzle and glued it back together in order by 10's up to 100.

We cut out the stages of growth from a tree and had to put them order as how they happened.

Mrs. Susie helped us plant flowers and talked to us about the different parts of the flower (roots, stem, leaves, and flower).

While Mrs. Hannah assessed kiddos on learning rings and end of the year assessments, some kiddos were also working on matching up their lowercase letters on the magnet boards.  This looks easy, but these kiddos still have trouble with this at times.

We worked again on identifying a number on a ten frame and showing that amount.  We struggle with numbers 11-20, so we'll continue to do a lot of repetition with this.

We don't do a lot of coloring sheets in class, but this week we did.  I'm so proud of how far we've come with coloring!  We still have a few that scribble, but we're working so hard at staying in the lines and taking our time to get us ready for kindergarten and strengthen our hands.  Coloring is a GREAT way to strengthen the muscles in our hands to get us ready for writing, cutting, painting, and coloring that we'll do in kindergarten! :)

Playtime with friends...we love to build and create and use our imagination every chance we get!

We spent some extra time outside this week when the weather was nice.  Had to take advantage of it while we could!

Have a great week!

Pond Life

This week we talked about Pond Life critters like frogs, turtles, ducks, geese, insects, crayfish/crawdads, and fish.  We even got to see a few real crayfish, fish, and tadpoles in jars!  We also started practicing some of our graduation songs, so we're starting to feel pretty grown up as we prepare for the end of the year. :)  We also enjoyed some great time outside with a little extra playtime in the sunshine this week.  We had to make the most of it while it lasted!!  Hope you enjoy the pics and the videos of our fun-filled week!

Getting our day started with table top centers

Practicing our alphabet sounds by singing our daily song in our reading folders

We point and read the letter and say the sound after..."the B says buh"...

We worked in independent groups to find the patterns and then cut and glued the missing pictures from the patterns.  I was so proud of how well they did this on their own without teacher help!

They turned out great!  Well done kiddos!

We also worked on our cutting skills by cutting on various lines.  We're definitely making some progress!

We colored our frogs based on the color that the sentence said below each frog.

We worked on counting our teen numbers by using a ten frame to create the number of marks to show the number.

We cut apart our frog puzzles with 11-20 and then we glued it back together in the right order.  We still have a lot of kiddos who struggle to recognize the teen numbers and struggle to get them in the right order, so keep working on this at home whenever possible.

We had our feet painted yellow to make little ducks.

We also used ribbons to create a little "X" on our ducks too.  Can you find it?

Look for our little duck feet at the end of the hallway on display!

We made cards for some of our friends at Slate Run who are getting ready to take ISTEP Testing.  We wrote, "You can do it!"  Then, we drew some pictures and added some stickers.

We also cut out pictures of a frog jumping through a hoop, but we had to sequence the events according to what happen 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th in the order of events.  They did pretty well with this concept. :)

Our Ten Frame Show and Tell
 We had 4 X-Rays.

 We had 2 X-Men.

 We had 1 foX.

 We had 1 mailboX.

 We had 1 eXpress book.

We had 1 piece of waX.

We had 1 magnetic letter X and a taXi.

We had 1 xerox copy of a hand.

Playtime with our friends inside the classroom

Playtime with friends outside :)
So thankful for some sunshine this week!

We took a look at some crayfish, tadpoles, and fish in the jar.

This little guy was our Student of the Week and shared all kind of goodies in the red basket.

 We practiced our graduation songs.

We're getting excited about upcoming graduation with our friends on Wednesday, May 9th!
