President's Day

We learned about presidents this week, and we focused especially on Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.  We looked at different coins and the presidents on them, and were even able to do a small experiment with them.  Thanks to the beautiful weather, we were also able to have some fun outside this week as well.  I'm so ready for Spring!!! :)

Cooper got to share his adventures with Gumby this week!

We made our own special American flags with various rectangles, our shape of the week, and counted the number of stars and stripes we used for each one.

We talked about what we would do if we became president and then drew pics of what we would look like as presidents.

We made masks of either Abraham Lincoln or George Washington out of paper plates.  This was the before...

...and here is the after.  So cute! :)

We painted with cut toilet paper rolls to create what should look like fireworks.  We traced our letter "K" for Kaboom with our red, white, and blue paint.

We had fun playing inside with puzzles...

...with magna tiles...

...with trucks...

...with dolls...

...with playdough...

 ...and with cars.

We also had fun playing outside too!  Thank God for the beautiful weather. :)

Though it's hard to tell, these kiddos are investigating a caterpillar that they found on the playground.
They found it and looked at it all on their own.  See?  Kids ARE born scientists! :)

We tested surface tension of water with drops of water on 4 different coins.  When we dropped water on the coins, the water molecules stuck together like magnets and made a water bubble on top.  We counted to see how many drops of water we could fit on the coin before the water fell off and out of the bubble.  We discovered that the smaller coins held fewer drops of water.  Each kiddo had a turn to use a water dropper to drop water on the coins as well.  This was a great fine motor activity as well as a fun science experiment!

Community Helpers

We talked about various kinds of people that help us in our community this week...police officers, firemen, doctors, mail carriers, etc.  We had the chance to learn about them, read about them, meet some of them, and even dress up like some of them.  So much fun!  Hope you enjoy the pics from our fun-filled week about Community Helpers!

Harlee told us all about her adventures with Gumby this week...playing outside, playing with a remote control truck, and even playing with her pet pig! :o

Working so hard on tracing our names and learning our individualized skills on our learning rings.

Using our shape of the week (rectangle) and color of the week (blue), we made mail trucks with our pics inside.  Look for these hanging in the hall.  So cute!

Class play...these are our friends who decided to pretend they're The Ghostbusters for our classroom.  They used goggles, magna tiles, and magnifying glasses to help them look for ghosts and zombies all around the room.  They crack me up!

We did some free reading time with buddies on the carpet and took some time to look at books at the end of the day.

We dressed up like different types of community helpers and talked about the jobs that each one does in our community.  They are just soooo cute!

We had a special visitor from Sergeant Russ Wyatt from the Floyd County Sheriff's Department.  He came to talk to us about how police officers are our friends and do their best to keep our community safe.

He even let us look inside his police car, see the lights flash on top of the car, and (very briefly) hear his siren.  So cool!

Enjoying some play time outside in the sunshine.

Miss Beth sang some songs to us while we rode the school bus.  Thank you so much!

This is the exhaustion after running all around and chasing each other. :)

It's time for some fun with science!  We got to see a chemical reaction this week by mixing baking soda and vinegar together in order to see and hear fizzing red hearts.  Each kiddo got a chance to use the droppers to squeeze vinegar (dyed red) on hearts made out of glue and baking soda.  This was great fine motor for those little hands, and a cool way to see and learn about science!

Have a great week!  See you next Thursday!

Dental Health and Valentine's Day Party

We squeezed in two themes this week and managed to have a variety of visitors too.  Thanks to the orthodontist, Seth Ernstberger, who visited us on Thursday and all the parents who volunteered at our Valentine's Day Party on Friday.  We had a lot of fun both days, and I hope you enjoy the pics.  See you next week!

Liam took home our Gumby last week, and he was able to tell us about all his fun adventures with him.

We painted teeth with toothbrushes. :)

We created toothbrushes by tearing paper and cotton balls.

Look at that great tracing!  Keep up the great work!

We pretended like we were flossing teeth by using string to "floss out" playdough between Mega Blocks.  This was a challenging fine motor activity, but it was a great way to talk about dental health!

We made our Valentine card carriers before our party.

We had a visit from an orthodontist in our area, Seth Ernstberger.  He showed us some funny pics of teeth and taught us how to take care of our teeth.

I took a few pics of our pearly whites this week.  Can you guess which teeth belong to which student?

It's time to read and play!

Our sensory bin had dolls and toothbrushes this week so we could pretend to brush their teeth.

We did an experiment on hard boiled eggs by putting one in water and one in Pepsi.  We said the eggs were like teeth, and when we soaked the eggs in both liquids, the one in Pepsi turned brown.  This shows how unhealthy foods can stain and harm our teeth.

Class Valentine's Party

We made heart-beaded bracelets on pipe cleaners for great fine motor practice.

We made headbands with hearts on them.

We sorted our candy hearts by color and counted them on a graph.

We made door knob hangers with our names on them.  We're still working hard to spell our names and put our letters in the right order when we do spell it.

We cut out watermelon in shapes of hearts, our shape of the week.  Yummy!  Mrs. Hannah also listened to our hearts at this station with a stethoscope.  This was a great way to talk about heart health while we ate watermelon hearts too!

We had yogurt pouches for snacks at our party too.

Fun had by all!

Parents, thanks again for all your continued support!  I'm so blessed to have such great help!
