Eric Carle

We've had such a great week talking about the well-known author and illustrator, Eric Carle.  We've gotten to read and look at a variety of his books, and we've done some fun activities to go along with our letter "E" as well!  We've gotten to use scissors, glue, buttons, markers, stickers, crayons, paint and chalk.  We've had fun getting messy!  I included the link to a few letter "E" songs as well as the story of "Elmer" by David McKee that we watched about being different.  So cute!

Placing stickers on our letter "E" and elephants.

After hearing the story of the elephant in the book "Elmer" by David McKee, we made our own unique patchwork elephants by cutting tissue paper and gluing it on to our elephant.  We're trying to remember that "God loves everyone, no matter how different they may be!"

So much focus and concentration on trying to get these scissors to work with these tiny little hands and fingers.  This was our introduction with cutting, but we'll be doing lots of practice with this in months to come.

We used marker stamps to decorate and "trace" our #2!

After reading "The Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle, we made caterpillars out of the letters in our name.  This was a real challenge for these kiddos, and we'll be working a lot on name recognition and putting the letters in order to make our name.

We also made the letter "E" with popsicle sticks.  Then, we covered them with buttons.  This was a lot of work with messy fingers trying to get buttons in the right places, but they did well with it.  We still have a few more kiddos to finish next week, however, because this project took a little longer for these little hands. :)

Two friends just doing some coloring together during their free play time.  So sweet. :)

After reading Eric Carle's book, "The Little Cloud," we went outside and drew clouds and other things we imagine to see in clouds with chalk on the pavement.  Then, we went inside and did sponge painting in class of our own clouds.  Some thought their clouds looked like animals and others like airplanes.  So many cute ideas from these little minds!

Some of us had to get our chalk organized in straight rows before we could draw. ;)

It's playtime outside!

So great to see friends working on LEGOs and blocks together and sharing their space!  We've been working so hard on this. :)

I always love to see kiddos choosing to look at books during their free play time!

Such a pleasure getting to know all of these sweet kiddos.  Have a great weekend!
