Letter K Video Song with ABC Mouse
Letter K Song with Jack Hartmann
Spell YELLOW song
We talked about how unique snowflakes are and no two are alike. We are unique too! God made us all special and different, so we talked a lot about this and made a little craft to go along with it. I wrote a "secret message" and drew a snowflake in white oil pastel, and when they used water color, it magically appeared! "God made me unique!" They loved this little craft. I add a picture to this and use this in their final binder for the end of the year. So cute!
Since we talked about the letter K this week, we created little kites to glue on our letter of the week.
We worked on "reading" sentences with our new sight word "is" this last week. We use a lot of repetition to help us see the pattern of words. Check this out in their reading folder, and see if they can "read" it to you. They will be SO PROUD!
We read the books, "Snowmen at Night" and "Snowmen at Work." Then, Mrs. Andrea talked to us about what we think our snowmen might do at night when we're not looking. Would they play on our swingsets? Would they play baseball with neighbor snowmen? Would they have jobs like real people do? We drew pictures to show what we thought. It was so fun to read books about what snowmen might secretly do.
We used our dotters to find the upper and lowercase letter Kk in our picture.
We looked at a sequence picture of making a snowman. We decided what would come 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and cut out and glued the pictures on in that order.
We practiced tracing our names, and then we we had great helpers who helped erase all of our names too.
We used sugar cubes to build igloos and ice walls. So fun!
This little lovebug was our Student of the Week this week. She has a little book full of drawings that we did of her, and she was able to color the big drawing I made as the guide. She also brought in a basket of items to share with the class that tell us something about her. Every student will have a chance to do this, so just encourage them to be patient and their turn will come! :)
This handsome fellow is a new student in our class! I was so proud of how sweet and kind our class was to him on his first day. It just warms my heart. He just joined us on Friday, so if you see him or his parents with him, make them feel welcome to LAP! :)
We did a fun little science experiment this week called "ice fishing." We put a few ice cubes in a jar of plain water. Then, we sprinkled on some salt mixed with blue food coloring on each ice cube in the water. We placed a piece of string on the ice cubes and counted to 100 while we waited to see what would happen.
We pointed to our hundreds chart while we counted to 100.
Look closely...the ice stuck to the string! I love the look on those faces. :)
See! Science can be fun!
Our friends had fun playing (and building) during our classroom playtime.
Building anything with playdough is always a hit!
We also got to spend some time in the Minds in Motion room this week as well. This was a great way to exercise our brains and our bodies and a great way to get some wiggles out when we've been cooped up on these cold days!
We also had our Show and Tell time this week and brought in a letter K item. We counted our items on the ten frame as we talked about what we brought in.
We had 1 Kooper with a K. :)
We had 1 letter K block.
We had 1 kangaroo.
We had 1 set of keys.
We had 1 set of letter K toy popsicles.
We had 1 Kit Kat candy bar.
We had 1 King car.
We had 1 fuzzy keychain.
We had 2 sets of ketchup.
We had 1 kitchen set.
Hope you enjoyed the pics from our blog!
