Favorite Author: Jan Brett

We studied books by Jan Brett this week such as The Mitten, The Hat, Gingerbread Friends, and The Wild Reindeer.  We made fun crafts and did some writing activities to go along with the books we read.  We also worked on matching our uppercase and lowercase letters while working on our cutting and gluing skills.  Kiddos were able to play with "snow play dough" with winter animals this week in addition to creating igloos out of Styrofoam in our sensory bins this week too.  I also made "snow in a jar" with paint, glitter, and Alka Seltzer.  We also had some new items added to our MIM room this week, so check out our pictures of all of the fun adventures we had with them this week!  Hope you enjoy our pics!

After reading the book, The Mitten, we talked about and drew what we would fit inside of our own mitten.

We practiced cutting by making prickly needles for the back of our hedgehogs on paper plates.  They turned out so cute and went along with our stories about Jan Brett too.

We created a graph with different shapes by using our color words to color code all the shapes, and then we counted how many of each shape we had.  Then, we put our information on a graph.  This was a great combination of counting, color word recognition, and shape recognition too.

After reading The Mitten, we made our own mittens with our Bible verse from the week at the bottom.  Then, we decorated it with sequins, which is a great fine motor activity for these little hands.  This is a magnet for your fridge at home. :)

We worked on cutting out the correct capital letter and gluing it next to the correct lowercase letter.  This was a great way to review our letters as well as a way to work on cutting and gluing skills too.

We made snow in a jar out of a few ingredients: white paint, baby oil, food coloring, glitter, and Alka Seltzer.

We poured all these ingredients into the jar, except the Alka Seltzer.

After kids took turns adding Alka Seltzer, we saw the white paint start to bubble and fizz all through the jar and to the top.  It created a snow storm in our jar!

We brought in letter "U" items for Show and Tell this week.

We had 2 ukuleles.

We had 1 "Up Do" on a Barbie. :)

We had 6 unicorns!

We had 1 uniform.

We had a kiddo who brought an item that had a "U" in the middle of the word.  So, he brought a truck.

We had 3 umbrellas (and 1 UK book in the middle).

We had 1 letter "U" stamp.

We had 1 bag of utensils.

Mrs. Andrea made white "snow play dough" for us this week, so we could play with it in class with our snow animals and wood pieces.  So fun!

We've had so much fun building with toys and wearing these funny glasses too!

Our sensory bin had square foam pieces to build igloos for the winter animals in the bin too.

We introduced some new activities in our Minds in Motion room this week.  You'll have to check it out when you pick up your kiddo next time. :)

We have Jumping Jack Flash which requires us to jump with feet together as far as we can.

We used our brown balance beam with bowling pins in each hand.

We walked around the new rope and balance beam circle.

We did the "Jelly Roll" on our blue mat.

We pushed on the hands on the wall to build strength in our hands and arms.

We still love the trampoline!

The Rock Wall is a fun favorite too.

It's our yellow rocker.

We still have the roller coaster, sit and spin, and now have a bean bag stomp and toss toy too.

We still have our green spin chair.

We trace the figure 8 while we bounce on the blue ball.

We crawl forward and backward on the blue tape line.

Hope you have a great week!
