Winter Animals

We had fun talking about winter animals this week and all that they do.  We talked about those that hibernate and animals that don't.  We talked about the blubber that they have under their skin to help them stay arm in icy cold conditions, and we even did an experiment with a "blubber glove" so we could understand how important blubber is.  We also discussed letter "V", the number 12, and the sight word "my" in the midst of our theme as well.  It's been a busy fun-filled week!

We often work on matching pictures with the correct letter sounds during our reading groups.  We sort them based on the letters we have covered so far to help review the letters and their sounds.

We also continue to work on making sure we put our names in order and can name each letter.  We'll be working on our last names soon, so it's great to review what we know before moving on. :)

Mrs. Andrea helped us learn about the #12, the square shape, and how to spell BLUE  this week when we made our penguin pictures.  We counted out 12 squares to make an igloo around our penguins, and then we traced the #12 and word BLUE at the bottom of the page.

They turned out so cute!  Check them out at the end our hallway!

We traced the letter "V" with q-tips and blue paint.

We shared our crafty snowmen pictures and all the cool things used to create them.  They were so excited to talk about them with the class, and they turned out great!

Look for these in the hallway as well!

These kiddos are working super hard to learn their color words and color more carefully to stay inside the lines.  They did a color by number penguin page to help them practice.

We also painted polar bears or technically around polar bears and then stamped the color word BLUE to help us learn how to spell it.

We also made snowy owls by painting with marshmallows to look like feathers for the owls and glued on eyes, feet, and a perching stick.  They look so cute!  We might try to put these up in the hallway too sometime soon!

We used stamps this week also just to stamp the letter "V" for practice.

I created a "blubber glove" using shortening between two Ziploc bags and duct tape on the ends.  This created a glove that kids could put their hands into and then dip into icy water.  They felt the ice water with and without the glove to see how well "blubber" protects animals from cold temperatures.

This handsome guy had a birthday this week!

Can you tell he brought in cupcakes with blue and purple icing?

We brought in letter "V" items for Show and Tell this week.

We had 2 videos.

We had 1 vase.

We had 2 vehicles.

We had 1 Victoria.

We had 1 wooden letter "V".

We had 1 video game.

We had 1 van.

We had 2 vampirinas.

We had 2 vacuums.

We had 1 VBS photo.

We had 1 Vixen reindeer.
