Leaves

Fall has arrived, and we spent our week talking about leaves!  We've observed them, painted them, punched them out, and talked about how to spell some of the colors that leaves can be as well!  It's been a fun-filled week in class as well as a great night with our Trike-a-Thon.  Thanks to all of you who participated and donated!  Thanks to your generosity, we managed to raise more money than we have in years past! :)

We reviewed our color words this week, and I've included some of the songs we've used to help us remember how to spell our color words.  These are great studying tools for home too, because songs seem to make learning a lot easier and more fun!

spell ORANGE song

spell BLACK song

spell RED song

spell YELLOW song

spell GREEN song

spell BLUE song

We got the chance to use some special leaf punchers that punch out maple and oak leaves out of paper.  This took some serious hand strength, but these kiddos managed pretty well.

Then, we glued our leaves to our trees.  The goal was to have at least 10 leaves on their tree, and these kiddos did pretty well with counting on their own. :)

We worked on cutting, gluing and "reading" some basic words in a sentence.

After we cut our sentence strips apart, we glued them in the right order and wrote our sentence underneath.

We "traced" the letter "H" with stickers.

Another teacher gave us these cute "scratch and color leaves".  They come with special pencils, and when you scratch the leaf, a rainbow of colors are revealed!

They turned out so colorful and beautiful!

We also got to do a really fun and messy craft this week by painting with aluminum foil.

Who would have thought aluminum foil could be used to paint such great pieces of art!

Mrs. Susie helped us be scientists and make observations about leaves.

She also played a math game which involved graphing the leaf that was spun with a spinner most often.  This was a little more difficult for these kiddos, but they managed to do it!

We're still working on signing our names each morning we come in, and we're continuing to do it on our papers at our learning stations too.  The more you can practice this at home with their laminated name, the easier it will become at school too.  Thanks for your help! :)

We brought in our letter "H" items for Show and Tell this week.

We had 2 hats on our ten frame.

We had 2 hammers on our ten frame too.

We had 1 headband.

We had 4 horses.  A popular choice!

We had 2 helicopters.

We also had 1 hippo.

Last, but not least, we had 1 heart.

Playtime with friends...

We enjoyed some sunshine outside with friends too...
Look at all these cuties!

I was so glad to see so many kiddos from our class come to the Trike-a-Thon on Wednesday.  It was a great night of family fun!  I hope you all enjoyed it!

Have a wonderful Fall Break everyone!
