Apples

It's been a fun-filled week full of delicious and messy activities with our apple theme!  We've gotten to taste apples, paint with apples, stack them on our head, read about them, and even bake with them.  I hope you enjoy the pics of all our activities and videos from the week!  Don't forget the Trike-a-Thon is Tuesday, September 18th at Floyds Knobs Elementary from 6-7:30 p.m.  Enjoy face painting, food, bouncies, playground fun, and of course riding trikes/bikes with helmets around our little track if you wish.  Bring the whole family, and I'll see you there! :)

Spell Color Green Song

Letter A Song (Jack Hartman)

We're still working very hard to have good pencil grip and trace our names in the morning.  Keep practicing at home every day with the laminated name and marker I sent home.  It will get easier and easier for these little hands with practice. :)

We colored our little bicycles for the Trike-a-Thon this week.  Don't forget to come Tuesday, September 18th to Floyds Knobs Elementary!

We cut apples in half and then "traced" the letter A with our apple painting.

We dotted the letter "Aa" and traced the sentence.

We colored coffee filters with markers to make it very colorful.

Then, we sprayed them with a little water and let them dry.  Then we put our dried colorful coffee filters behind an apple print with our Bible theme for the week and our picture inside.  Look for these in the hallway!  They turned out so cute!

Each week we sing our alphabet sound song and point to each letter.  You'll find a copy of this in your child's reading folder.

We talked about the part of the apple this week.  We cut each word apart and labeled our apples accordingly by the stem, leaf, flesh, skin, and seeds.
We working really hard to cut and glue things in place.  Practice cutting at home with kid scissors to help strengthen these hands and cutting skills too!

Mrs. Andrea read the book, "Ten Apples Up On Top" by Dr. Seuss and then helped us draw pics of ourselves with apples on top of our heads.  We used stickers or paper apples to place above our drawing and then counted how many apples fit on top of our heads.  They traced the number after counting.

We even tried to get little apples to stay on top of our heads.  Not much luck but it was sure fun trying!

We also did a combo skills sheet with our number and letter work for the week.

We used more cutting and gluing skills by cutting out apples and gluing them in order by size on our paper.

We even practiced tracing the letter "A" in applesauce!

We brought in a variety of letter "A" items for Show and Tell this week...
 We had 1 green apple.

 We had 3 red apples.

 We had 2 animals.

 We had 2 Ariel dolls.

 We had 1 Captain America.

We had 1 American Girl Doll.

 We had 1 address book.

We had 1 alligator.

We had 1 bag of acorns.

We tasted red, yellow, and green apples.  Then, we decided which ones were our favorite and made a graph to show it.  Check the graph out in the hallway for our results!

We also tried spreading apple butter on biscuits.  This was a tasty way to squeeze in fine motor skills with our apple theme too!

We talked about how to core an apple to take out the seeds and stem in the middle.

Then, we sliced our apples to make apple chips.  They were dried and baked in the oven for our snack the next day.  A new and tasty way to try an apple!

Mrs. Andrea brought in some oatmeal and play apples for our sensory bin this week.  They loved it!

More fun times of playing with friends in the classroom...

Playtime with friends outside...

Hope you have a great week!
