Eric Carle

We celebrated a beloved children's author this week named Eric Carle.  He is known for writing a variety of books including The Hungry Caterpiallar, The Tiny Seed, The Grouchy Ladybug, Draw Me a Star, Brown Bear, Brown Bear and much more.  We read quite a few and were able to do some fun crafts with them as well.  We've painted with Q-tips, stamped with letters, colored, traced, written, and so much more with these little hands.  We've had a great week of learning, playing, and spending time with friends too.  Hope you enjoy the pics from the week!

Spell YELLOW Color Song

Letter F Song from ABC Mouse

After reading The Grouchy Ladybug, we made ladybugs out of paper plates and took pictures of our grouchy faces to attach to them to make ladybugs.  So funny to see these facial expressions!  You'll have to check them out in the hall. :)

We wrote our names and then counted the number of letters in our name and put the numbers on a ten frame.  Then, we found something that started with the same letter as our first name.

We're still working regularly at tracing our name and some are already writing them clearly on their own too.  Keep up the work at home, because it's helping! ;)

We did a short activity with tracing some basic shapes independently.

We traced the letter "F" with Q-tip painting.

We dotted the letter "F", found all the F's we could, then traced #2 and put it in our ten frame.

After reading Draw Me a Star, we talked about Eric Carle being and author and an illustrator.  Since Eric Carle has so many cool illustrations, we decided to become our own illustrators.  We painted a piece of paper with a variety of colors, then Mrs. Hannah cut out a star from our painted papers.  They turned out so cool!
Check them out at the very end of our hallway!

We also read The Mixed Up Chameleon who wants to be like everyone else and discovers he's unique in his own way.  Then, we created our own chameleons and talked about what made us unique.

We had a friend who brought in Lincoln Logs in our Estimation Jar this week.  We made some great estimations on how many were in our jar and then counted them as a class to see how many there were.

We also read The Little Cloud by Eric Carle.  Then, we decided to make our own cloud in a jar for a little experiment.  We talked about how when clouds get heavy with water, the rain comes out as rain.  So, we filled a jar halfway with water, squirted shaving cream on top, then used drops of colored water in the shaving cream and it dripped down into the water like colorful rain.

Each kiddo got a turn coming to drop colorful drops of water into the jar.

Our Bible lesson was about using kind (sweet) words versus mean (sour) words with others.  We talked about how kind words make God happy and mean words make Him and other sad.  So, to understand what sour words feel like, we brainstormed a variety of them and tried lemons to see how sour actually feels.  Their faces were hilarious!
I was proud of how brave they were to taste lemons, and glad to see they understood how sour words feel bad like sour lemons. :)  It was a great tie into our color of the week (yellow) too!

We brought in our letter "F" items this week and counted them on our ten frame.
 We had 1 Firetruck Transformer.

 We had 4 flowers.

 We had 1 frog.

We had 1 Foxy the Fox.

 We had 2 fish.

 We had 1 fork.

 We had 1 "Frozen" book.

We had 1 firetruck with sirens and lights.

 We had 1 file folder.

We had some fun times in and out of the classroom this week.  Check out friendship moments!

We also had a new friend added to our class this week as well!  Welcome to LAP, little man! :)

In the midst of all the rain, we did get a little time outside!
