President's Day

This week we learned about two important presidents, Washington and Lincoln, while we celebrated their birthdays with our President's Day activities.  We read about their lives in addition to other presidents and the jobs of a president.  We also learned about different coins, patriotic songs, and even the Pledge of Allegiance.  We worked on letter "G", the sight word "can" and the color brown, even though we dressed in red, white, and blue to be patriotic on Thursday.  We also did a fun little science experiment to test water tension on different coins, and we even held our own election.  After reading the book, "Duck for President," we used our very own "secret ballots" to decided if we would choose the Duck or the Farmer to be President.  So much fun all around!  Hope you enjoy the pics!

We traced letter "G for Grapes."

We hunted for different sight word cards around the room and then wrote down the ones we could find.

We sorted pictures by their beginning sounds.

We read "Duck for President" and decided to hold our own election in class to chose whether we think the Duck or the Farmer should be president.

 The Duck won our election!

We tested surface tension in a science experiment by counting to see how many drops of water could fit on each coin before the water fell off.

We discovered the nickel held the most water!

We created log cabins just like Abe Lincoln's out of popsicle sticks and glue.

We created a George Washington face with white cotton bail hair and all!

We made fireworks with chalk!

On Friday, we worked on tracing our names by using salt painting.  I traced their name in glue, sprinkled salt on it, and they had to use a dropper to drop watercolor on the letters to see the colors run all around.  It was sooooo cool!

We took turns drawing out letters out of the bucket, named them, and wrote them down on our dry erase board.

These cute little handprint crafts just never get old. :)

If I were president, I would...

make sure all the animals are safe...

make sure no one throws trash out their window...

help people and stop the bad people...

stop people from fighting...

We listened to some fun songs and videos that taught us about coins and which presidents are on the coins.
